Adoption Process

Alchemy Acres provides an environmental adoption service to help adopters find the best pet to fit in their home. The sanctuary does require potential adopters to complete an adoption form to aid in the adoption process (see bottom of page for forms).

When seeking to adopt a pet from Alchemy Acres many people ask to walk through our kennel buildings. Unfortunately for the public, Alchemy is unable to provide this service. Many of the canine residents at Alchemy are permanent residents for various reasons, mainly behavioral. Our insurance company, board of trustees and veterinarians all feel that it is in everyone’s best interest not to host walk-throughs. This not only minimizes liabilities to the Sanctuary but stress to the animals and ensures safety to both the public and our resident animals. Walking though a dog kennel can also become stressful on the potential adopters because they are looking at not a few well over 50 faces who need a home. The “walk through method” also denies the adoptive family the opportunity to see the individual dog and spend one-on-one quality time with him or her. Instead they often see a bouncy dog who is far too excited to meet a new person, this more often than not deters potential adopters. Some people may find it hard to believe but our feline residents also become very excited to meet new people.

Alchemy Acres provides a neutral environment where families may spend quality time with individual animals of their interest. We highly encourage adopters to take their time as adopting a new family member is no light decision. If you have any other questions about Alchemy’s adoption process please feel free to contact us.
